A little over a week ago I was in Louisville making photos for Solace in the Highlands. It’s a small family-owned therapeutic spa in the Highlands neighborhood with a distinctly elegant flavor. I was there just before Christmas photographing the staff for their website and Facebook pages. It was a pleasure seeing the finished interior, and fun photographing it.
I also designed Solace’s logo and print collateral materials (signage, business cards, letterhead and brochures). That was a first for me, as I’ve only recently learned to use Adobe InDesign and Illustrator software (I’ve been taking computer graphics courses at Frederick Community College). The design aspect of the project was serendipity – I had to create a brochure for my graphics class at the same time the manager of Solace contacted me. Of course the brochure assignment required a logo, and when I showed my ideas for the print materials to the folks at Solace they loved them, and everything just fell into place.
The staff at Solace plans to exhibit art by mostly local artists on a changing basis, but chose me as their first featured artist. It was an honor to see my work on their walls. If anyone reading this is in Louisville and in need of skin care or a massage, this place is the greatest. I was given a complimentary facial after my last shoot there – not something this guy is used to. My rough, sun-damaged face felt like a million bucks when Karen was done with me.
Solace just had one of the best promo videos made that I’ve ever seen for a small business – check it out at this link. And finally, here’s an extended peek at what’s behind the door now at Solace in the Highlands.
